MoGo Street Skills Classes

MoGo Detroit Bike Share is excited to launch its Summer Street Skills Classes made possible by General Motors! At MoGo, we believe that anyone who wants to ride a bike should feel safe and comfortable enough to do so. For those who aren't quite there yet, we're here to help.

 

Our Street Skills classes are for current or prospective MoGo users. You don’t need a MoGo Pass to participate. All classes are free and run by a certified instructor of the League of American Bicyclists. Here's what you need to know:

 

  • MoGo Bikes will be provided for all registered participants of a class, so you don’t need to worry about bringing a bike. For MoGo Pass holders, there’s no need to check a bike out ahead of time - we’ll get it for you!

 

  • MoGo bikes are recommended for individuals 5-feet or taller. You’re also welcome to bring your own bicycle. Please just let us know ahead of time so we can coordinate the number of bikes we need for each class.

 

  • Helmets are required for all participants. Free helmets will be provided to all participants thanks to support from General Motors.

 

  • All classes have a maximum of 10 participants. To ensure everyone has a bike, we ask that all participants pre-register. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. If a class is full, you can sign up on our waitlist and we’ll call you if a spot opens up. We understand that things happen and schedules change. If you register for a class, but can no longer attend, please contact us ASAP so we can find someone else to take your place. Thank you!

 

  • We rotate our classes through three locations around the city. Find a date, time, and location that works for you and register through the Eventbrite link.

 

  • You must be 16 years or older to participate.

Biking 101

Biking 101 is a two-hour class for individuals who have not been on a bike before or maybe just haven't done so in a few years. In this beginner class, we’ll teach you how to size your bike, how to balance on two wheels, stop, start, ride in a straight line, shift gears, and turn.

Confident City Cycling

Confident City Cycling is a two-hour class for people with experience on a bike, but may not feel comfortable riding in an urban environment. In this class, we’ll review proper signals, discuss where you should ride on the road, positioning at intersections, how to avoid hazards in the road, and take a short ride as a group.
