Two Station Alerts

We moved two MoGo stations today and wanted to let you know in preparation for your next ride. Both stations are up and running in their new locations.

  • Fort & Griswold The Fort & Griswold station is no longer in front of the Penobscot Building. The station moved east across Griswold and is now located in front of the Qube between Woodward and Griswold.

  • Cass & Hancock Following the repaving and striping on Cass Avenue, the Cass & Hancock has moved back to the southbound side of Cass Avenue just North of Hancock. Please be aware of bicyclists riding in the bike lane when pulling MoGo bikes out of their docking stations.

MoGo Reaches 100,000 Rides In Less Than Five Months

October 17, 2017 (DETROIT) – MoGo, Detroit’s public bike share system, a nonprofit affiliate of the Downtown Detroit Partnership (DDP), has surpassed 100,000 rides in less than five months. Since launch, more than 2,000 Monthly and Annual Passes have been sold, 17 percent of which are MoGo’s Access pass, a $5 annual option for people who receive state benefits.

“Seeing Detroiters embrace MoGo as a new way to move around the city has been nothing short of thrilling,” said Lisa Nuszkowski, founder and executive director, MoGo. “We’re proud to provide a transportation option that’s serving a diverse range of people and needs, and we look forward to continuing to provide that service as we move into the fall and winter seasons.”

Since the start of MoGo’s operations at the end of May, the system has:

  •  Achieved more than 100,000 rides for an average of 705 trips per bike, per day,
including ridership from every zip code in Detroit
  •  Experienced more than 2,100 rides on its peak ridership day
  •  Had users ride nearly 76,000 miles since launch, which equates to three trips
    around the equator
  •   Sold more than 2,000 Monthly and Annual Passes to date, and more than 18,000
    Daily Passes to date
  •   Provided affordable options through its Access Pass, a $5 annual pass, which
accounts for 17 percent of all long-term passes sold to date
  •   Produced an average trip length of 22 minutes per ride
  •   Offset 50,900 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions, the equivalent of more than
56,500 miles driven by an average passenger vehicle
  •    Helped riders burn more than 3.2 million calories, which is enough energy to
generate more than 3.7 million watts of energy
  •    Taught more than 70 people safe and confident bicycling practices through its
    free Street Skills classes

MoGo has 430 bikes at 43 stations located in New Center, North End, Woodbridge, Corktown, Southwest Detroit, Eastern Market, Lafayette Park, West Village, Midtown and Downtown, and is exploring options to expand MoGo to serve additional needs and communities, including the launch of an adaptive bike share pilot in spring 2018. The pilot will provide other bike options such as tricycles, handcycles, and tandem bikes for seniors and people with disabilities.

Sponsored by Henry Ford Health System and Health Plan Alliance, MoGo is a 24/7/365 service, and will continue to operate regularly during the fall and winter months. As colder weather approaches, MoGo’s fleet will be serviced and maintained regularly to make sure the bikes are ready to ride in all conditions.

Ambassador Spotlight: Amina Daniels

Amina Daniels is a cycling enthusiast who founded a community fitness studio in the West Village called Live Cycle Delight. She loves the West Village’s walkability and character, but her favorite place in the city is East Jefferson, just south of E. Jefferson Ave near the canals.

For roughly two years, Amina has been leading a weekly bike ride out of Capitol Park in Downtown Detroit and the West Village area. As a MoGo Ambassador, Amina hopes to share the joys of commuting and empowerment through bike share.

Ambassador Spotlight: Christina Guzman

Christina Guzman is a lifelong Detroiter who has been doing community outreach and organizing in Southwest Detroit for several years. As a teenager, Christina remembers biking was a way to see and spend time with her friends in the neighborhood. Recently, Christina has noticed a growing bike culture in Detroit and around the country. She believes MoGo will be an accessible, equitable, and affordable way for residents to move around.

Christina loves Southwest Detroit for its diversity. Outside of the neighborhood, Christina loves spending time on the Riverwalk and at Campus Martius Park. Read about all of our ambassadors here.

Ride MoGo for Free on October 1

We’re celebrating our first summer in operation and Open Streets Detroit with a day of free rides!

MoGo will offer free rides on Sunday, October 1 to thank people for their support of bike share and help more people enjoy Open Streets Detroit.

“MoGo is helping transform transportation in the city, providing yet another option for Detroiters to get where they need to go,” said Lisa Nuszkowski, founder and executive director, MoGo. “We hope this one-day promotion will encourage more people to get out and get active, whether they are participating in Open Streets Detroit or looking for another way to get around town.”

The normal $8 fee for a Daily Pass will be waived on October 1. Charges will only apply for any individual trip that exceeds 30 minutes. Riders can avoid charges by docking a MoGo bike at any one of the system’s 43 stations before going over the time limit and taking another bike out.

How it Works

  • Interested riders can go to any MoGo station, which can be found on mogodetroit.org or by downloading the CycleFinder or Transit apps.
  • Insert a credit card, select “Purchase a Pass,” and follow the instructions on the screen, or use the Transit app by selecting “Purchase Pass.”
  • After completing transaction, pick any bike and type in a five-digit code issued when purchasing the pass on the keypad located on the left of each parked bike.
  • Ride for up to a maximum of 30 minutes at a time. *Fees apply if a rider goes over 30 minutes.
  • Return the bike to any station and take out another bike by inserting your credit card, or using the Transit app and selecting “I already have a pass,” then ride again!

Open Streets Detroit will temporarily turn parts of Michigan Avenue and West Vernor Highway into safe, open, car-free zones for local families and the community to run, bike, shop and play together on Sunday, October 1, from noon to 5 p.m. Open Streets Detroit is free and open to participants of all ages, and families are encouraged to attend. For more information on Open Streets Detroit, and to learn more about programming and the route map, please visit openstreetsdet.org.

Ambassador Spotlight: Elizabeth King

Elizabeth King decided to become a MoGo Ambassador for Rivertown because she wants to dispel the myth that bikes aren’t a realistic transportation option. In addition to being a commuter tool that makes people happier and healthier, Elizabeth believes biking is the best way to see the City of Detroit.

Elizabeth’s favorite memory on a bike is from her trip to Amsterdam where she was amazed to see so many people on bikes wearing all types of clothing. She hopes Detroit can one day reach a similar level of bike-friendly infrastructure and bike-first mentality.

Ambassador Spotlight: Georgea Cole

Georgea Cole works with so many people in so many different communities that she actually represents two Detroit neighborhoods: New Center & Corktown. Georgea is temporarily unable to ride two-wheeled bicycle, so she has high hopes for MoGo’s Adaptive Bike Share pilot program which is due next Spring. Click here to read more about Georgea!

Ambassador Spotlight: Hanan Yahya

Our featured MoGo Ambassador this week is Southwest Detroit resident Hanan Yahya. Hanan is involved in a variety of community service, growth, and advocacy organizations in Southwest and other parts of the city. When she’s not doing development work or riding MoGo, you might find Hanan at one of her favorite Detroit locations, Patton Park. Read more about Hanan and our other Ambassadors here!
