MoGo, Detroit’s non-profit bike share system, announced today station locations for its planned expansion. Set to launch in Spring 2020, MoGo will add 31 new stations and 140 bikes to central northwest Detroit, as well as Ferndale, Royal Oak, Oak Park, Berkley, and Huntington Woods, nearly doubling MoGo’s current system size.
“MoGo is proud to partner with our expansion communities in tackling an important piece of the regional transportation puzzle,” said Lisa Nuszkowski, founder and executive director of MoGo. “Bike share is ideal for shorter distance trips, and we are excited to be one step closer to increasing mobility options for more people in metro Detroit.”
Since announcing the system expansion in 2018, MoGo has worked closely with the expansion communities to better understand their transportation challenges and explore how bike share can help address a range of mobility needs. Station locations were determined through a series of community meetings, suggestions from MoGo’s online station siting map and input from local officials.
“We are eagerly awaiting the advent of MoGo as a new transit option in our community,” said Erik Tungate, Oak Park City Manager. “It will complement our efforts to create the highest quality of life with the best public amenities possible.”
Since the start of MoGo’s operations in May 2017, the system has:
MoGo is made possible by generous support from its title sponsors, Henry Ford Health System and Health Alliance Plan (HAP), who have been partners in fostering healthy, vibrant, and active communities through bike share since 2016.

Inspired by the middle names of my father and two brothers, George Gregory is a space with a goal that each time you leave the shop you’re in at least a tiny bit better mood than when you opened the door. MoGo, Detroit’s non-profit bike share system, announced today that it is adding 50 state-of-the-art electric, pedal-assist bikes to its bike share fleet. Called MoGo Boost, the e-bikes will help people in Detroit and the region go farther, faster by providing an electric boost when pedaled. “Our mission is to serve a wide range of people and needs through bike share,” said Lisa Nuszkowski, founder and executive director of MoGo. “As the demand for new mobility options has increased, we are excited to offer the MoGo Boost e-bike to our riders to help them get where they need to go more quickly and efficiently – and have more fun while they are doing it.”
Riders can find stations with ⚡Boost bikes and rent them
by using the Transit app, which is free to download on the Apple or Android platforms.
MoGo Boost e-bikes feature intuitive technology that detects the amount of electric boost each rider needs while pedaling and adjusts accordingly to deliver a smooth, easy riding experience. With a maximum speed of 15 mph, MoGo Boost e-bikes allow riders to cover more ground with the same amount of effort. MoGo Boost e-bikes are fully interchangeable with MoGo’s current system of 430 bikes and 44 stations and are painted jet black to make them easy for riders to distinguish. Riders can take a MoGo Boost e-bike from any station and return it to any station within the system. The e-bikes will be charged by the MoGo operations team, and MoGo hopes to add electric charging stations to its system so that bikes will be charged while not in use. As a reminder to riders, all MoGo bikes must be checked out and returned to any one of the stations in the system.
E-bikes offer several benefits: attracting a wider range of riders, such as older adults, compared to traditional bikes and encourage healthy, active lifestyles. E-bikes are also used for longer trips than traditional bike share bikes. According to PeopleforBikes, the average e-bike share ride is three miles compared with traditional bike share, which is 1.9 miles.
MoGo strongly encourages safe cycling and the use of helmets while riding its bikes. All MoGo bikes should be ridden on the street in the same direction as traffic. If you must ride on the sidewalk, always ride at the speed of pedestrians.
