Whether you’re working from home or remotely, the world outside the windows in Metro Detroit looks much of the same: grey.
You might close the blinds, or turn the lights brighter in your office space – or your bed, if we’re being honest – to create a space with more light and warmth, and with less room for thoughts about the cold and greyness outside that door.
What if, instead, we told you that the best way to combat the dry winter days was to face them head-on? That the next time you look outside the window and think of sunnier days, you can still find a reason to be outside? With MoGo, you can.
Even in the depths of single-digit January days, hundreds of Metro Detroiters are out riding MoGo every week, and they’re loving it (and we have proof from this weekend)!
If you’ve read this far, and you’re still on the fence about going for a bike ride in the 30-degree weather that awaits you, let this be your push: if you go for a ride, post about it on any social media platform, and tag us, you’ll get a free month of MoGo – for yourself or to share with a friend – to get you back on the streets this spring!
After this week’s snow, we thought we’d also share how to ride properly in the wind and snow. Whether it’s snowing outside or cold and dry, there are still plenty of opportunities to ride MoGo.
So I guess it’s safe to say we’ll see you out there, right? Happy riding, Metro Detroit!
We’re excited to share that, as part of a new partnership with Bird, all of our stations will now be visible in the Bird app!
“MoGo and Bird share a common goal: to give Detroit residents and visitors greater access to affordable micromobility options,” said Adriel Thornton, MoGo’s Executive Director. “Our integration with the Bird app helps highlight and promote the wonderful transportationservices MoGo provides in partnership with the City of Detroit Department of Transportation, all at no cost to MoGo, the city or our riders.”
If you’re looking to save money while you travel through Metro Detroit, then this is the blog for you. In this series, we’ll explore the various connections that FAST, powered by SMART, and MoGo’s service area provide.
First, some introductions: MoGo is Metro Detroit’s bikeshare system, operating 75 stations and 620 bikes across 6 cities, and SMART is Southeast Michigan’s regional bus system, providing convenient and reliable transportation throughout Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties.
In this installment of the MoGo x FAST series, we’re looking at the Michigan Avenue FAST route (261).
Some quick facts:
When it comes to MoGo and FAST Michigan connections, there’s no better place than Downtown and Corktown. With MoGo stations located within one block of every FAST Michigan stop in those areas, catching the bus is easy regardless of where you’re biking from.
And, although we’ve highlighted the beginning (Downtown Detroit) and end (Detroit Metro Airport) of the FAST Michigan line, the connections in between are just as important. Get to The Dingell Transit Center in Dearborn, as well as Dearborn Heights and Inkster along the way, with nearby attractions like Greenfield Village, the Henry Ford Museum, and Fairlane Mall throughout.
Beyond the convenient stops, traveling with MoGo and the FAST Michigan bus is good for your health, reduces your carbon emissions, and saves you money. Plus, if you ever need a ride back from the airport, or can’t get there to pick someone up, the FAST Michigan bus is there for you.
Still not convinced? Think about how easy it’d be to take a quick trip to Dearborn for lunch, or if you’re working in Dearborn, a quick trip to Corktown. No need to worry about traffic, gas, parking, or even taking a longer lunch break – you can check emails with in-bus WiFi!
Next time you’re looking for a quick getaway, MoGo to a stop on the Michigan FAST route.

The intention behind Fourteen East has always been to create an urban experience with a peaceful ambiance that welcomes people to Detroit. After accomplishing that mission for nearly a decade in the Park Shelton building, Fourteen East moved to the only commercial spot in the new Wayne State Ilitch School of Business. Since opening originally in 2011, Fourteen East has seen Midtown transform from visitor-heavy to resident-heavy, expanding its menu and other offerings along the way. Now, Fourteen East will have a chance to serve Wayne State students and staff, concert and event-goers at Little Caesars Arena, and MoGo riders docking their bikes in front of the shop! The best part? MoGo riders can show their MoGo card, key fob, Transit app, or receipt (from that day’s ride) to receive 10% off at Fourteen East.

MoGo Adds New Station in Partnership With Wayne State University
The partnership includes free annual passes for all Wayne State students, staff, and faculty, and comes on the heels of MoGo’s 500,000-ride milestone.
DETROIT. October 21, 2021 — This week, MoGo, Metro Detroit’s non-profit bikeshare organization, in partnership with Wayne State University, opened a new bikeshare station at the Mike Ilitch School of Business.
The station, located on Woodward Avenue just south of Temple Street, will provide direct access for students at the southernmost point of campus, and will be an additional transit option for students, staff, and faculty in connecting them to other parts of campus. This will be the sixth station that serves the greater WSU campus area.
MoGo has been serving the Wayne State and greater-downtown Detroit area since 2017; it has also been operating in Northwest Detroit, Ferndale, Royal Oak, Oak Park, Berkley, and Huntington Woods since 2020.
The partnership with Wayne State, which originated in Wayne State’s Office of Economic Development, includes free Annual MoGo passes for students, staff, and faculty of the university. Wayne State created the program to encourage its community to use public transportation to get to, and around, campus. The program also offers free DDOT and SMART bus passes.
“MoGo is a convenient, exciting, and healthy way for people to get to where they need to go,” said Adriel Thornton, MoGo’s executive director. “We’re proud to partner with Wayne State to expand our service and offer students and staff the opportunity to utilize this mobility option, for free.”
Through the first 6 weeks of the program, which launched in September, more than 1,000 Wayne State students, faculty, and staff have logged over 3,000 rides, suggesting that the program is popular and useful.
“We are thrilled with the early success of Wayne State’s partnership with MoGo,” said Ned Staebler, Wayne State’s vice president for economic development and president and CEO of TechTown Detroit. “The new station gives our students, faculty, and staff yet another easy option for traveling between Wayne State’s core campus and the Mike Ilitch School of Business.”
The Wayne State partnership has so far exceeded expectations, contributing to MoGo reaching a major milestone of 500,000 rides since launching. Previous projections had estimated that MoGo would achieve that number of rides in 2022; Wayne State staff and students’ early adoption of the free pass promotion contributed greatly to this goal being reached months earlier.
In early October, MoGo rewarded the 500,000th rider, a Wayne State librarian who had redeemed her pass at the beginning of September, with a swag-pack and lifetime Annual Pass.
Reaching 500,000 rides was also made possible by Shift Transit, MoGo’s operational partner since their launch in 2017.
“Our partnership with MoGo shows just how much we can accomplish to make active transit options accessible to Detroiters,” said Shift Transit’s CEO Edward Inlow. “Shift is thrilled to celebrate this exciting program milestone and looking forward to continuing to power the bikeshare system for many years to come.”
Representatives from both MoGo and Wayne State are excited about the initial results of the partnership, and look forward to its sustained growth and success.

It’s been four years and a few months since MoGo officially launched Detroit’s first, and only bikeshare program. In those four years, we’ve grown from 44 stations to 75, and increased our footprint from the Greater Downtown Detroit area to include Northwest Detroit, Berkley, Oak Park, Huntington Woods, Royal Oak, and Ferndale.
As we’ve grown and expanded, our members and casual riders have too, bringing us closer and closer to our next big milestone: 500,000 rides! With that number soon approaching, we thought we’d give all riders – members or not – the chance to win some extremely exclusive prizes that we’ve never offered before.
Here’s how it works: beginning Monday, September 13th, the individual with the most rides per week will win their choice of MoGo swag and a MoGo pass. For swag, riders can choose between a MoGo shirt and a MoGo baseball hat, and for passes, riders can choose between a free Annual Pass, or 2 free monthly passes for themselves and a friend. The weekly competition will continue until we get to 500,000 rides.
The person who takes MoGo’s 500,000th ride will win MoGo for life, along with a full swag pack that includes a shirt, baseball cap, rope bag, winter hat and gloves, lanyard, sticker, and phone wallet.
Good luck to you all, and happy riding!

DROUGHT was co-founded by the James sisters in 2010; the Kickstarter-funded idea initially was to have a stand at Eastern Market’s Saturday farmer’s market in Detroit. The simultaneous social media boom quickly spread word of the sisters’ plan and the business was born. As DROUGHT continues to grow and expand from its Berkley headquarters, MoGo is excited to announce that MoGo riders can show their MoGo card, key fob, Transit app, or receipt to receive 10% off all juice products at DROUGHT’s flagship store in Berkley.
