Rider Perks: Bea’s Lemonade

Riding along the Dequindre Cut, you may notice a large lemonade stand resting 5 feet above the path with a big ‘Bea’s Squeeze’ logo stretching across it. That’s because husband and wife team, Eli and Beatrice Wolnerman, bought the smallest parcel available on the Dequindre Cut in order to create their version of the perfect lemonade stand, with the feel of childhood nostalgia and some modern updates.

Visiting the stand is an experience itself, which is why what started off as a summer pop-up is now a permanent installation on the Dequindre Cut! MoGo riders can show their MoGo card, key fob, Transit app, or receipt to receive $1 off any lemonade at the Dequindre Cut lemonade stand.

Detroit Bike Challenge

MoGo is excited to be working with the City of Detroit this summer on the Detroit Bike Challenge. The Detroit Bike Challenge is a program launched by the City of Detroit’s Office of Mobility Innovation, with the intention of encouraging and increasing biking in the city.

Throughout the warm season, there will be 5 challenges: two, month-long challenges in May and October, and three mini-challenges between June and September. While there are prizes and incentives for riding, it’s not really about who can ride the most; it’s about encouraging as many people as possible to ride for health, happiness, and fun.

With the May and June challenges behind us, here’s what you can look forward to over the rest of the summer and into the early fall:

  • Westside Wednesday Challenge (July 19 – July 31)
    • Collier ’40’ Hardaway, the founder of ReUnited Detroit, will be hosting 2 rides on Detroit’s west side. In addition to logging miles from the ride, riders that share pictures or videos on social media using the #WestsideWednesday hashtag will be entered to win one of three $50 Visa gift cards and a Westside Wednesday tumbler and t-shirt!

  • REP 313 Challenge (August 1 – August 31)
    • During the month of August, the Detroit Greenways Coalition will host two virtual bike tours of Detroit’s bike infrastructure and greenways. The tours will be available for download on the Detroit Greenways Coalition’s website. Riders should upload any photos or stories on Love to Ride showing their favorite spot on the virtual tour, their favorite place to ride in Detroit, or a picture of them during the D-Town Riders Soul Roll Ride.

For more details on how to participate in either of these mini-challenges, visit this link!

In addition to these upcoming mini-challenges, there will be a full month challenge in October, there are ways to get your workplace and co-workers involved, and MoGo will be holding smaller events during each challenge period to help riders boost their numbers! If you have any questions about the Detroit Bike Challenge, reach out to Sherelle Streeter, or take a look at the Detroit Bike Challenge home page and FAQ, which have details on how to create an account, log rides, and anything else you might need to know along the way. Happy riding!
